Come see the best new reason to paddle
Texas Whitewater!!. The New Rio Vista Park is now
open to the public, and has officially been
changed to Rio Vista Falls Park. That's right,
just cool clean water flowing through 3 amazingly
fun drops! The park is open until 11:00pm and
entrance is free!
The top wave is the largest and most popular play
spot. It is a fast wave but is great for surfing,
spinning, and blasting. The second wave, while a
bit smaller, provides tons fun and opportunity
for cartwheels and aerial moves. The lower wave is
perfect for perfection your surfing and
whitewater maneuvering capabilities. Here at Red
River Racing we are extremely excited about our
many events and classes that we are able to hold
here. The park is an invaluable tool in helping
us to truly give our customers the best
experience and the most practice. Mayor, Susan
Narviaz,is also very excited about the project
and is looking forward to the many things to
come. Gary Lacy of Recreational Engineering, Inc,
said that they loved the city of San Marcos and
that this project was one of their more fun jobs!
He and his group are spreading the word in
Colorado about San Marcos warm winter paddling!!!
City Coordinator Dan O'Leary is overjoyed to see
so many kayakers in the water. He is supportive
and looking forward to us bringing paddling
events to the area. Sladeo festival anyone?? How
about a US Team Trials Qualifier? Maybe Junior
Olympics? The possibilities are endless, and we
are very thankful for the City of San Marcos
taking the chance to not just "fix the dam" but
to truly make Rio Vista Falls Park amazing!! The
New Rio Vista is beautiful!!
For all of you who are traveling to see and play
the park it is sure to be fun! We have our
community paddles here at the POC every Thursday
night starting at 6:30pm. Now that school is in
session we have the park almost to ourselves.
Even though the water is a bit low, because of
the design of the rapids, the park is still very
good for play boating and working on your skills.
Need more practice? Take a class from the Power
Olympic Outdoor Center just downstream. We are
only 5 minutes away, and we can take you all the
way from beginner to advanced. Give us a call at
512.203.0093, or check out our classes at
www.kayakinstruction.org! We love to get people
out on the water!
